31DC2015 Day 6 Purple: Takko Lacquer Cheshire Cat

You know how sometimes you find an indie brand that you love so much but can never get your hands on? Well that was the case for sometime for me with Takko Lacquer. Their stock was just too low for me to ever succeed in the restocks but their polishes were just so unique I needed to have them in my collection. A few months back everything changed and I managed to snag a few colors. The next day Sheryl, the creator behind it all, emailed me with astonishment that I even knew about her brand and insisted on sending me some samples. So many smiles graced my face when I read her kind words. She even let me choose which ones I wanted and of course I had to go with this beautiful thermal polish ‘Cheshire Cat’.

Alright so you may be thinking as you come to this post, “Isn’t it supposed to be day purple of the 31 day challenge Corynn?” and yes that is very true. But there isn’t any pink day so I figured lets combine the two forces. In my mind I wanted to attempt a cheshire cat of some sort but I realized that I could never pull it off so I used Zoya ‘Mira’ and ‘Charisma’ for some cheshire stripes. Pretty snazzy right?! HA! I know this isn’t very much for the challenge but I hope I get another wave of motivation going thru me. The golden shimmer in this polish really makes it pop and stand out amongst the rest. I used three coats to achieve full opacity.

Wasn’t able to get any good photos of the cold stage of this polish which is the darker purple so here’s a little video to show you all the transition that happens! Find it HERE on my instagram!

You can find Cheshire Cat at TakkoLacquer.com but make sure to sign up for their newsletter so you can get the information about restocks!

LVX Lacquer Summer 2014 Review

Provided for review

I keep telling myself to get the ball rolling with my nails again but I just keep having these weird lapses of no nails! This nail depression needs to stop like right now! I think these next few posts will help that out for sure. One of my favorite 5-free vegan brands on the market today has got to be LVX nail lacquers. Not only do they have some amazingly crafted colors but the formulas are out of this world! I squealed like a little girl when I got a package from them consisting of three new colors from their Summer 2014 collection as well as their Gel-like topcoat which I have used throughout this post.

Laguna is a vibrant pastel blue cream that shows opacity in two smooth coats. A perfect addition to the other range of blues I own from LVX already. Makes me want to grab my snorkel gear and jump into a cenote!

Lolli is a subtle pastel pink cream which also shows opacity in two flawless smooth coats. A great color for almost any skin tone with a perfect formula. This and Laguna would be perfect for a friends baby shower!

Porcelaine is an off-white ivory cream. I used three coats as there was some slight streakage with only two but even without topcoat it smoothed out very nicely. A great color as the base for some nail art!

LVX Gel-like Topcoat was quite impressive for the few times I used it. It applied smoothly, showed little to now bubbles and cured in a timely manner; rather quickly if you ask me. I used it in some nail art and it did not smear or hinder the design. The large brush that LVX lacquers have also helped in the application of this topcoat. All-in-all I would say it wouldn’t be a bad investment if you are looking for a long-lasting chip resistant topcoat.

You can find all these colors, the rest of the collection (which I now need) and the Gel-like topcoat on LVX’s website HERE. Also follow LVX on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for sales, giveaways and much more!

As I mentioned before I am very fond of LVX formulas and colors so if you haven’t gotten to try them out yet I totally recommend it!

Illamasqua & Tillie Polish Chevrons

When in doubt chevron it out! That’s kinda what I told myself last night as I did this manicure. Wasn’t wanting to do a full on water marble but wanted to be kind of artsy still. Chevron’s are a great way to achieve want I wanted especially since I have these nice Nail Vinyl‘s to make it all super quick and easy. Who doesn’t love pink and gold, well really I like gold and any other color together its such a majestic shade and Tillie Polish’s ‘Golden Goddess‘ never disappoints.

I own three Illamasqua polishes and this is the first time I am using any of them. Now, I NEED THEM ALL! Amazing application, like amazing, and wonderful coverage in two thin coats. A while back I purchased a set of Throb & Spartan on eBay and the seller graciously surprised me with Obsess‘ since they knew these were my first Illamasqua’s to add to my collection. I was a pretty happy chica as this is one perfect hot pink creme and I had been waiting for valentines day to use because it’s so special.

This design isn’t too festive for the upcoming holiday but it works well for my sanity and like I said who doesn’t love pink and gold together?!

Thanks for reading!

Double Accented First Day of School Nails

It was nice while it lasted but now it is time for this mucking lady to get back to her studies! I’ll be taking Evolution, Animal Physiology, Human Anatomy and Organic Chemistry II this semester and I gotta say I am pretty excited about those first three, as I hate Chemistry. I wasn’t planning on these being my first day of school nails but with all the assigned reading I already have these will have to do.

As you can see I am pretty obsessed with these Nail Vinyl appliqués as they make it so easy to get a clean chevron look. Using three thin coats of Precision Nail Lacquer Flamingo Pink as my base I then water marbled and chevroned it up with Polish My Life Holly My Jolly. If you didn’t already know I need all the cremes from Polish My Life as they have an impeccable formula! The photo below is shown without topcoat as I wanted to spruce it up some.

I went ahead and added some of Serum No. 5 As a Matte a Fact on my middle fingers, great idea. Then for some reason I thought that matted gold flakes using Zoya Gilty would look banging over the marble. Now looking at it I’m thinking if I had just matted the marble it would have come out more to my liking. Funny story I was all done with this manicure and had just put the matte coat on then I went ahead and touched my pointer with my finger cuz I was all like ooohh ahhh gold flakes and forgot I had just put topcoat on as it looks all dry when its matte! Hence the new marble on my pointer. But hey I its not the worst combo I’ve done so I wanted to share both looks.

Which look do you all like more? I really am digging these two colors together!

You can find Precision Nail Lacquers HERE where they offer a variety of low priced high quality lacquers.

Precision Nail Lacquer 60’s Retro Glam Nested Triangles

Provided For Review

My nail life has been so full of swatching lately, I feel my creative work has subsided in these past weeks. I was sitting there trying to think up of a way to use some Precision Nail Lacquers I got a few weeks back and I didn’t want to simply swatch these shades or even marble with them, I needed something new. Roaming around on Instagram and what do you know I see a lovely tutorial by Lacquertude for this nested triangle chevron look.  As I had just tried half this look with yesterdays post on Bsquared Lacquer’s Change the Game I felt confident enough to go the extra length with the added triangles. I used Precision Nail Lacquers Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (pink), Creme De La Creme (white), and Twist N’ Shout (orange). The black is of course Aenglands Camelot which was a great way to set off all the other colors. This took around 2 1/2 hours altogether with placing the tape and waiting as I didn’t want to risk it messing up. I used HKgirl topcoat in between each taping, it dried reasonably fast and only smeared one layer on one nail (accent white).

Here it is without the black as I liked both versions. This one isn’t as bold but these colors can’t not be bold as they are super neon. My camera just couldn’t handle all the brightness!

Precision Nail Lacquer is 3-free and can be found on their website HERE for only $5.95. You can also check them out on FACEBOOK and INSTAGRAM.

Breast Cancer Awareness Zoya Water Marble

What a crazy week! Just thinking about my next exams, which happen to all be on the same week, has been killing me. I feel like I have been stressing more then I have been studying, thats a big problem. I find myself doing this throughout the day, way too much.

What to do when you are this type of situtaion I ask? Sit yourself down and do something you really love and want to do. In my case today it was writing some on ze blog while listening to my new fav singer, LORDE. Love her!

This past sunday I sat at my table of joy, my nail table, browsing my now SIX shelfs (I think it might be helmer time) of all the beautiful colors I could choose from to marble with. Of course I have a stupendous amount of untried’s to use but that usually never dictats what kind of water marble I am going to conjure up on a sunday night. After many tests, tons of combos and lots of swatch sticks, the beauty you have before you was born.

At first I was quite hesitate on doing this girly look as I like to have some what of a purpose behind the color choices I make and these ones just kind of worked at random. Later in the evening, after I finished my nails, someone on instagram posted about how October was Breast Cancer Awareness month. I must of totally been totally vibing because I haven’t done a pink marble in forever. I personally lost my father to throat cancer when I was 16 and support awareness of any kind. Looking back I think that if I had known about october being all about pink, besides halloween of course, that I would of done this all in the pink colors. But I love purple so hard I’m letting it slide, plus my thumb is marbled pink ;)

In this photo you can see how well these Zoya shades blended together, the pink ones especially. I can’t get enough of the awesome randomness water marbling can create. I am so unartistic in real life but when I marble I feel all pro and junk. Suppose I am, haaa!

All together I used six Zoya creams for this manicure. Shelby, Lara, Areej, Perrie, Audrina and Mira. As you can maybe tell I was sort of going for an ombre look on each nail. I also tried some other combos in green and blue  but these were working out way better. I used Cult Nails ‘Tempest’ as my white base and used Glisten & Glows ‘HKgirl’ topcoat which I be totally loving on.

Here we are up close and personal with my two middle fingers. It looks like I dipped them together but  I actually did them separately. As I mentioned before the pink shades blended together very well and I was able to create a very tight nice looking marble.

Another dominant hand appearance! I am always writing in class and at home studying so my poor dominat hand’s cuticles aren’t as nice as the other. But the marbles on this hand came out more to my liking because the lines are just so distinct. Really love these pink Zoya creams.

The next day I threw on some of Nail Pattern Boldnesses ‘Alpha Nail’ which I happingly won in a giveaway from Llarowe. It gives theses colors such a nice shimmer and tone, hard to photograph on my phone but I can’t stop staring even more now.

All good things are happening! Not sure how much I’ll be able to do meh nails in the next couple of weeks but I’m gona keep my head up and get things done the right way, just like these guys did, well better then them but you get the idea.
